Welcome friends to my first all original album Ol’ Dad. Ol’ Dad is the name of the guitar that has been part of my life since I was a young boy, ultimately inspiring me to take up the style and craft of flatpicking. Hundreds of hours were spent playing it, or along with it, learning and developing my style of acoustic music and creating a musical bond with my actual Dad. We both saw it fit to name the guitar Ol’ Dad.
This album is a collection of original songs written and played on Ol’ Dad between 2015 to 2022. Much of it is a collaboration in writing and arrangement between my father and I in an effort to perpetuate the creative bond we shared in music for over 20 years. Father time had his way and Dad got to a point where he rarely played. But his musical muscle was still very strong. Writing and arranging became a way for us to stay in musical touch. Dad’s health declined in 2020 alongside the pandemic with his body giving in about November of that year. The parting promise was to finish and release this album, while singing spiritual songs to let soul take flight until his last breath. His final contribution to this project came that night while sitting alone playing Ol’ Dad. The album is assembled as a story from the opening chimes to the closing wisdoms. We welcome you to listen with an open heart to be amazed, amused, and deeply touched by love.
